PSHE Education CPD Program

PSHE education is an important area of the curriculum that helps children and young people grow and develop  as individuals and as members of families and communities.  The National PSHE continuing professional development (CPD) program has been running for eight years now and around 8,000 teachers and community nurses have undertaken the program. Oldham now deliver the training to any professional who is going into school contributing to the PSHE education curriculum.

In September 2011  PSHE education will be made part of the statutory curriculum.  The PHSE CPD program will support teachers and schools to meet them necessary standards by enabling you to improve your confidence and effectiveness in teaching and learning within PSHE

What are the aims of the program?

The national PSHE education CPD program provides a valuable opportunity for teachers to develop their skills in the delivery of PSHE in schools. It aims to:

◊ Improve the competence and confidence of those delivering PSHE

◊ Raise the quality of teaching and learning in PSHE.

◊ Enable participants to effect positive change in PSHE planning, delivery and development within their settings.

◊ Contribute to wider Government initiatives , in particular the teenage Pregnancy Strategy, Drug Strategy and 'Every Child Matters'.

Participants will enhance their knowledge and skills, and use nationally agreed standards to evaluate professional practice.  The evidence is collated in a portfolio which is accredited  through Roehampton University.   All provision is based in  Oldham.  Participants will be entitled to a minimum of 30 hours guided learning which will take place during 5 training days across the academic year.  The program will be supported by a range of on-line resources and support.  After completion of the program, you can access support from the PSHE lead in implementing training in your school. The program is funded through the DCSF and there is no cost to participants.
